A Brief History

Velvet charro jackets originated with Mexican horsemen in the early 1750's.  These horsemen developed a style of dress that adapted well to the needs of their profession, as well as their flair for showmanship.
The velvet jackets were hemmed at the bottom of the rib cage to show off the large and extravagant silver concho belts worn over hand-woven sashes by the vaqueros, or horsemen of that era.  The sleeves stopped several inches above the wrist to display the ruffled cuffs of their flashy shirts and silver concho wrist cuffs.  The short jackets were tight fitting and sometimes sleeveless.
The charro jacket evolved into a distinctive and streamlined design by the early 1900's, done in costly fabrics and discreetly adorned with gold and silver conchos.  It was worn extensively by rich "Hacendados" and "Vaqueros" (cowboys) in everyday activities as well as formal occasions.

This charro jacket takes on a truly stunning appearance with the addition of 66 nickel silver conchos.  Each silver concho is stamped, domed, silver-soldered and polished by hand.  Brass conchos are also available and have the appearance of gold.
We offer Charro Jackets in all standard sizes, Womens 4 through 12 and Mens 40 through 46.  The velvet jackets can be custom ordered on request if you desire for an additional charge of $35.00 (See Terms and Conditions).  The sleeves are designed a little shorter to show off your silver bracelets, and concho belts should show below the hem line.

The anti-tarnish finish used on our Polished Nickel Silver Conchos gives the appearance of Sterling.  All coats are made using Antique Nickel Silver Conchos unless Polished Conchos are requested.  Brass Conchos are always polished.  Custom Tailoring is additional.  All pricing for Sterling Silver products is subject to change. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for normal delivery.
